FOREVERHOME

Post-covid, Sarah and her husband bought their first home, relocating 140 miles from Oxfordshire to Sheffield in the process. This prompted her to explore the social pressures and expectations of owning a home, the idealistic attitudes we have to these living spaces, and where the concepts of home and a sense of place fit in.  

‘I wanted to explore our collective, ever-unrealistic obsession with houses – expectations that are becoming more like unattainable fantasies for many’. 

Drawing on previous soft sculptural works, Sarah was led to create using fabric, linking her own sense of home, growing up with a mother who was a self-employed seamstress on a house full of fabric samples and the hum of a sewing machine.
