Her face

Her face, video and audio recordings, 2019

I’m particularly interested in things we wear or use to alter our appearance, and what this says about our life experiences. My work doesn’t exist in a vacuum and in order to develop my ideas, I often invite direct involvement from other people, which has ranged from working with wildlife volunteer groups to interviewing residents in my local area.

While exploring the subject of aging, I was drawn to looking at the group of female artists I currently study with, mining into their collective experiences by recording their voices for this work. I’m interested in subverting the visual attitudes we have to our bodies, addressing make up as a medium of art in itself by using it as a way of exploring my own face, in response to the recordings I made. I’m looking for opportunities to explore this further, widening my scope to other groups of people and attitudes.
