The preparation of hair was a pivotal part of the toilette or levee in the 18^th-century, with certain styles dictating a place in society. By styling a wig that references the 18^th-century decadence of this period, I could then explore how this defunct ritual, which dictated a preferred hair type, style, texture and colour, can throw hair into a new light.

By building more abstract shapes into the wig, as well as a range of colours, textures and styles, I want to challenge our way of looking at our hair. I aim to invite everyone into this modern community, by creating a wearable sculpture that’s a parody of an elitist part of our history.
